Google + Twitter = real time marketing for brands

Some of our clients are not too keen about jumping on board with social media, however the new partnership between Google and Twitter is sure to change their minds. That’s because this partnership will help brands to respond in real time to developing events or news stories, taking advantage of instantaneous exposure across the internet, not just across social media networks.

Some of our clients are not too keen about jumping on board with social media, however the new partnership between Google and Twitter is sure to change their minds. That’s because this partnership will help brands to respond in real time to developing events or news stories, taking advantage of instantaneous exposure across the internet, not just across social media networks.

How does this work?

With Google now in bed with Twitter, this means that the search engine results pages (serps) will be able to show real-time tweets. This means that your tweets may be seen not only across your social media network, but may also be presented in the serps, in response to someone’s search query.

For this to work, your tweets must be tied to current events, rising trends or promotions and developing news stories. For example, if you sell umbrellas and there is a massive storm heading your way, if you tweet about your 50% discount on umbrellas and someone searches for umbrellas, then your tweet might be quickly picked up by Google.

What if the RBA drops interest rates to zero and your real estate business tweets about how this means people can now easily access mortgages and you have 15 open houses this weekend? People searching for information on the RBA interest rates or open houses may see your tweet and call you about buying a home in the area.

Do you see how advantageous this can be if you can leverage your tweets using the power of Google?

What does this mean for your business?

You will only really benefit from this new Google and Twitter partnership if you can be on the ball and can take advantage of current events. You will also have to be careful what you tweet and what these tweets say about your brand, as they can now be presented in the serps.

Nevertheless, if you don’t have a social media presence, now is definitely the time to put your toe in the water and promote your brand to the masses.
