With LinkedIn you can build a network of influential contacts that can lead to new clients, new business opportunities or new employees. You can even recruit via LinkedIn, access expert advice or promote your physical or online business. You can also use your LinkedIn profile to boost your website’s search engine ranking by allowing Google to find your profile (providing your profile includes links to your website or blog).

The problem is that many people don’t really know how to use LinkedIn, and they end up making a profile which then is left to languish unattended for long periods of time.

So here are 4 tips to a fresh start with your LinkedIn profile:

  1. Get involved. Did you know that 40% of LinkedIn users check their profile every day? That’s a lot of people online who write posts, update their profiles, ask questions and answer other people’s questions. So make a start by joining in people’s conversations and contributing to the community. This is a great way to become noticed amongst like-minded people.
  2. Find connections. If someone views your profile, you can do likewise and view their profile. So use this to your advantage and if they seem like someone interesting who you can connect with in some mutually beneficial way, then you can send them a request to connect.
  3. Write recommendations. If you have worked with any of the people in your LinkedIn network, then write them a recommendation (this is one of the features in LinkedIn). This is a good way to build work-focused relationships and also highlight your profile to other interesting and influential people.
  4. Publish often. As you may know, the more you publish in your area, the better you are perceived as an expert in your chosen area. LinkedIn allows you to publish a blog on your profile, and this is a really effective way to engage other users, build relationships and increase your network.

All you have to do is spend 15 minutes each day engaging with your LinkedIn community, mainly by chatting and asking and answering questions. Then post an interesting blog every week or so and you might be pleasantly surprised at the benefits to your business.
