We like to keep our clients up to date with social media, particularly with how online networking can help build customer engagement and increase brand awareness. Lots of our clients feel overwhelmed with social media marketing so in this article we are going to cover Twitter Cards and how you can use them in your business.
What are Twitter Cards?
Up until last year, Twitter was really only used for short text messages, with an upper limit of 140 characters. It was not a good platform for videos or images. All of that changed with Twitter Cards, which now allow you to include links to other digital media, such as images, videos and product information.
This has enormous potential to help businesses become recognised and to have their tweets read and retweeted more often, rather than becoming lost amongst thousands of text messages.
How do you use Twitter Cards?
First of all, there are 7 different Twitter Cards used for different reasons:
- Summary Cards – great for blogs or pages with lots of text, but only allows a thumbnail image.
- Summary Cards with images – lets you add a much larger image.
- Photo Card – great for single images.
- Gallery Card – for business with lots of photos to share.
- App Card – used for sharing or promoting applications.
- Player Card – for sharing videos or audio files
- Product Card – specifically for product promotions
All of these Twitter Cards will be of benefit to most businesses, but the product card can really increase consumer engagement and increase awareness of your products in the community.
Essentially, you add a Meta tag for one of these cards to your tweets and with so many different Tweet Cards, you can rapidly increase your leads at hardly any cost. Once you have your page, image or video file ready, you need to visit Twitters Developer site to find the Meta tag code you need to use.
After that, you need to add this code to your web page and then have Twitter validate your card. The whole process can take a while, but once you have all your cards organised, you are good to go. You can even use Twitter’s analytics to determine how well your cards are generating new leads.
Lastly, Twitter also has paid advertising using a new lead generation card. Whilst all the other cards are free for you to use, this card is not.
So if Twitter is one of the social media platforms you use for your business, consider using the new Twitter Cards, as they are a great way to advertise your business quickly.
