A key requirement of the project was to create an easy way for their customers to choose and buy custom hoses, which have a multitude of possible configurations. This is something which Hardcore Hydraulics couldn’t achieve with their existing DIY website setup.
Already a successful business in Mackay and surrounding areas, Hardcore Hydraulics knew that they needed to expand their services and products to their online audience. While they hoped to find a solution through a DIY website builder, they quickly ran into its limitations and realised they’d need a professional web developer who could help them with planning and building a high end website for them.
When Samantha Vassallo from Pivot Marketing Agency approached us, she advised that the staff at Hardcore Hydraulics were providing all custom hose quotes manually to their customers. This was extremely time consuming because it involved searching through a variety of spreadsheets to add up all the individual item costs based on various options, followed up with lengthy phone conversations to the clients, and emails to finalise the quotes.
Hardcore Hydraulics wanted to automate their quoting processes, allowing customers to customise their products, then order and pay online. The custom hose feature needed to include all possible options and combinations of items, so customers could choose their configuration quickly and easily. This would free up their staff to work on other core business activities, rather than spending a significant amount of their time writing quotes.
To achieve this, we custom-designed a new website using WordPress and WooCommerce, including a wizard for customers to configure their hose options. This core business function would save Hardcore Hydraulics a significant amount of quoting time, while also making the process much easier for their customers.
We therefore identified a number of key objectives for the project:
- Create a modern, fast, secure, and user-friendly website.
- Design a custom hose ordering workflow which is easy for customers to follow.
- Allow Hardcore Hydraulics to easily maintain their product range and options.
- Focus on funnelling customers to the custom hose feature.
From a technical standpoint, the custom hose feature needed to allow customers to input custom sizes, automatically displaying relevant options and adjusting the price accordingly. While many Australian companies offer custom-built hoses, the vast majority don’t provide the option to fully assemble and order a custom hose online.
In addition to making it easy for customers to use the website, it was vital that we set up an easy way for Hardcore Hydraulics to update their product range en masse. To do so, we created a bespoke spreadsheet template which they can import into the website at any time. This updates existing product information and images, removes any obsolete products, and adds any new ones. We also set up a suitable category structure to help customers filter down to the right hose types, or browse the other available products.
We assisted Samantha with troubleshooting the data in their spreadsheet and product images, performing several test imports and working through the resulting output. After multiple passes, we had eliminated all inconsistencies and made sure the template is set up so it works best for them.
Training was also provided during the project to ensure all stakeholders could easily manage products and other content on the website.
For maximum conversion rates, we needed to ensure that the website would engage the target audience. Hardcore Hydraulics’ commitment to their customers, value proposition and strong product lines were the driving force behind our design strategy.
To this end, we spoke to a number of key stakeholders to better understand the product and customer journey. We then planned the design to include the online store with a wide range of products available, but with a core focus on the custom hose feature.
In today’s world where shoppers want instant access and rapid results, the website needed to be fast, responsive and dynamic. It needed to present relevant information clearly, allowing customers to know they had arrived at the right place, and direct them to the custom hose feature.
The existing client branding was enhanced with professional images, updated typography, and well-defined calls-to-action.
Hardcore Hydraulics are thrilled with their new website and how it’s helping to make their business more efficient and scalable. They are already saving a significant amount of time previously spent on quoting, freeing their staff up to focus on their core tasks.
Customers are also extremely happy with the user-friendly custom hose wizard, because they can quickly purchase the exact product to suit their needs.
